MMORPGs are not like regular games, where you can take ideas from a very popular game and cash in on them with your own version – they require a lot more effort and money from developers, including servers, patches and expansion packs. You’ve really got to work at it to get subscribers to play your game in the first place and you’ve got to try even harder to keep them there, because once they leave they ain’t coming back. You cannot make the Saint’s Row to World of Warcraft’s Grand Theft Auto. Clearly this is a genre that it’s hard to cash in on.
