I clicked around the Internet a while, trying to find an appropriate article for a July 4th edition of Sunday Reading. A diatribe against fireworks. Evidence of Jefferson’s revision process while writing the Declaration of Independence. Repeatedly, Google sent me right back to one of the most moving (or pompous, I suppose) speeches ever given by a president of the fictional USA.
So in honor of America’s birthday (or, to the rest of the world, the birthday of Koko the signing gorilla), I present President Bill Pullman from Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day.
(Forgive the shaky cam. Apparently YouTube hates freedom from annihilation.)
