Torchlight Coming to Consoles, Prepare to Lose Days of Your Life

torchlight_largeRunic Games will not be satisfied.  After moving 800,000 units of their hit PC dungeon-crawler Torchlight, they’ve turned their hungry eyes to the console market.

Torchlight will hit Xbox Live Arcade next month as part of Microsoft’s House Party promotion.

We never gave Torchlight a proper review on the site – probably because we were too busy playing it.  Anyone who ever played Diablo or the Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance series will feel instantly at home in the dank dungeons beneath the town of Torchlight.  You and your trusty pet venture deeper and deeper, gathering loot and slaying hundreds upon thousands of monsters.  Level up as you journey down, and maybe you’ll even save everyone in the end.

It’s an RPG tale as old as time, but it’s told with whimsical art and writing and plays slickly.  It remains to be seen how the combat and UI will be adapted for console controls, but I have no doubt that the talented team at Runic can figure it out.

For those interested, other games coming in the House Party promotion include Hard Corps Uprising, Full House Poker, Bejeweled Blitz Live, and an HD release of the Ubisoft cult classic Beyond Good and Evil.  I put that BG&E last because it’s the only one I care about after Torchlight.
